Helping Kids Play the Sports They Love. Honoring a Legacy Built with Heart.
The Spencer Durbin Legacy Foundation (SDLF) Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Spencer Durbin (#22)—a player, coach, teammate, and friend whose love for lacrosse began right here in the South Sound community.

For Spencer, sports were always about more than the game. They were about friendships, teammates who became family, coaches who made a difference, and the feeling of belonging to something bigger than yourself.
Spencer grew up playing lacrosse in University Place, became a championship defender for the Curtis Vikings, and later gave back as a youth lacrosse coach. He played with heart, stood up for the underdog, and believed in lifting others up—both on and off the field.

In October 2022, Spencer's life was tragically cut short at just 21 years old by an accidental fentanyl overdose. Even in his passing, Spencer continued to give through the incredible gift of organ donation, saving and improving the lives of others.
Today, his legacy of giving continues through the Spencer Durbin Legacy Foundation.

Helping Kids Get in the Game
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the friendships, confidence, teamwork, and sense of belonging that come from playing sports.

Through our scholarship program, SDLF provides financial assistance to young athletes and families who need a little help making that possible.

Our scholarships are open to young athletes across all sports—not just lacrosse or South Sound Lacrosse players.

Scholarship assistance may help cover:

• Sports registration and participation fees

• Equipment, uniforms, and gear

• Tournament and team fees

• Other expenses that might otherwise keep a child from playing

Our hope is simple: No child should miss out on the opportunity to play because of financial barriers.

Spencer knew what it meant to be part of a team. He understood the importance of showing up for others, standing up for the underdog, and making sure everyone had a place to belong.

By helping another child step onto a field, court, or playing surface, we're carrying forward the very things that made Spencer special.
